Morganmania is running wild in Bellator! An interview with Dave Morgan.

Pennsylvania native Dave Morgan is taking a big step up in competition this Friday when he faces Matthew Lozano in his hometown. For Morgan who is moving up from regional shows including Miami’s Championship Fighting Alliance, the fight is an opportunity of a lifetime. “It’s unbelievable. I’m so grateful that Bellator is letting me get in there.”

Morgan who is 5-1 and on a three fight winning streak is already considering a game plan for the undefeated Lozano. “My strength is wrestling and from what I understand his weakness is wrestling. But he’s very good on his back. I might try and use my wrestling in reverse and try and keep it on the feet a little more, so I’m not in his comfort zone.” Morgan was a three time All American and a two time Division III National Champion at King’s College.

Distressing to all of the Morgan’s fans, Morganmaniacs as it were, is that even if the flyweight impresses in his Bellator debut the promotion has no tournament for his weight class. “I think it’s awesome. I think it creates a lot of excitement because you have to earn your title shot. It’s a cool way to do it,” Morgan explained. “Unfortunately for me, they don’t have a 125-pound division. I hope after this fight they make one.  If they were to make 125 pound weight class, I would 100% want to fight in the tournament.”

Of course Bellator’s loss could be UFC’s gain for their newly christened flyweight division. In discussing competing against the likes of Ian McCall, Joseph Benavidez and reigning champion Demetrious “Might Mouse” Johnson, the two year MMA veteran was humble but firm. “The day is going to come when I am going to be in cage across from ‘Mighty Mouse’ for that title. That’s the goal.”

Morgan finished our conversation by thanking those that helped him get where he is today. “I want to thank Aggressive Athletics, they’ve been nothing but great to me. Mat Assassins, that’s where I train and Pride Lands BJJ.”
