The new UFC 151 will be headlined by Jon Jones vs. Vitor Belfort

The crazy light heavyweight title scene got a little bit crazier in the wee hours of the night yesterday as presumptive number one contender, Lyoto Machida, turned down a chance to fight Jon Jones for the title on September 22nd at the new UFC 151. Machida has promised to outline the reasoning for his decision soon, but this turn of events wasn’t the last for the night.
Shortly after Machida turned down the fight, Vitor Belfort agreed to face Jones at the event. Belfort who was unable to compete against Wanderlei Silva at UFC 147 due to injury, was scheduled to face Alan Belcher at UFC 153 on Oct. 13 in Rio de Janeiro.
On Twitter Belfort was overjoyed with the news, “I just finish the call with my boss @lorenzofertitta and @danawhite I want to thank booth for put me in where a lot of guys are acting like divas I think this is a big challenge for any fighter that is alive on the game I thank God to provide me with this Blessing 2 fight the youngest champion we will face each other I have all the respect for jones thats why u can`t miss this competition a vintage and hy-tech fight Glory to Jesus also happy for all the fans I will not let no one down I come from the times of #carlsongracie He live inside of me I learn so much thing with him and #alstankie” (sic).
Belfort who is a former UFC light heavyweight champion, beating Randy Couture for the title in 2004, has not competed in that weight class since returning to the promotion in 2009.
