Daniel Cormier set to face Frank Mir in Strikeforce

Strikeforce heavyweight grand prix winner Daniel Cormier who last defeated Jeff Barnett in May’s Strikeforce: Cormier vs. Barnett event, is now scheduled to face UFC’ Frank Mir. It was rumored earlier in the week that Cormier would face UFC veteran Tim Sylvia, a return for the fighter to Zuffa, but that was shot down by UFC president Dana White. Mir who lost to Junior dos Santos at UFC 146 will be the first UFC fighter to cross over to Strikeforce.
“There has been a lot of speculation as to who Cormier would fight next, and this is the fight that makes the most sense,” UFC president Dana White said. “The reality is, Cormier is one of the best heavyweights in the world. He just won the grand prix and beat Josh Barnett. He needs to fight opponents of that caliber, and Frank Mir is that guy.”
The bout is expected headline a Strikeforce event planned for late October.
