CFA 07′s Dave Morgan looks to end Josh Mercado’s undefeated streak this Saturday

Pennsylvanian native Dave Morgan is planning to come down to Miami and unleash the power of Morganmania on his opponent at CFA 07, Josh “The Fireball Kid” Mercado. Morgan who started wrestling at five bring an impressive collegiate wrestling background with him. While attending King’s College he was a three time All American and a two time Division III National Champion.

Morgan who has been fighting professionally since 2009 originally debuted as a bantamweight but made the change to flyweight in his last bout. Going 3-1 at bantamweight, Morgan won his debut at his new weight class in November. With the fight less than a week away he was feeling great going into the final stages of his weight cut.

A substitute teacher by day, Morgan was coaching college wrestling when he decided to go into mixed martial arts. “I was coaching a college for wrestling and the competing aspect of it,” Morgan explained. “If you’re not a top wrestler and don’t have the funding to compete you’re not going to go really far in it. So I wanted to keep busy, so I took a couple of amateur fights and now here I am.”

But come June 30th Morgan will be stepping out of the class room and into the cage against the undefeated Mercado. “I know he’s pretty flashy. He’s got a good Muay Thai background, but I just plan to take him down and see what he has from there.” Although he has a superior wrestling background to Mercado, Morgan doesn’t feel that either fighter will have a significant advantage. “I don’t think it’s really going to be a big deal. I think he knows what I have and I know what he has, so he I know his strategy and he knows mine. We’ll see what happens.”

“The CFA thing is huge,” Morgan said. “It’s a sold out arena. It’s the biggest crowd I have ever competed in front of in anything. That’s huge. It’s an honor to go out there. That’s my motivation. I hope Mercado is ready. I want to put on a good show for the fans.”
