Melendez vs. Thomson III For Strikeforce May Event

It looks like Gilbert Melendez finally has his next opponent and it’s a man he is quite familiar with. Reports are coming out that current Strikeforce lightweight champion Gilbert Melendez will face former champion Josh Thomson in a rubber match between the two. Melendez who was first rumored to be jumping to the UFC and then became fodder for fantasy bookers who had him fighting any number of challengers will face Thomson at the Strikeforce: Barnett vs. Cormier event. The event is scheduled to take place May 19 at HP Pavilion in San Jose, Calif., and airs live on Showtime. The card will be headlined by the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix finale between Josh Barnett and Daniel Cormier.
