Yoislandy “Cuba” Izquierdo Leading Up To CFA 04 Part Two
Check out part two of our interview with Yoislandy below:
Peter: When you came here [from Cuba], did you meet your wife, or did you already know her from Cuba?
Yoislandy: No, we actually met each other in this gym.
Peter: Here at Young Tigers [gym]?
Yoislandy: Yes. She also loves doing exercise. She also helps me with my physical preparation at home. She knows a lot about that. We started as friends and now we are making a family together.
Peter: Talking about that, do you have kids. What is your personal situation?
Yoislandy: Well I have a daughter in Cuba. From a previous engagement. She is already seven years old and she’s getting pretty big. And now I am putting together my new family, thank God, and soon we will be having our daughter.
Peter: Well that daughter will definitely be able to use the $20,000 that are on the line on December 17th. What are you going to do with that money if you win it?
Yoislandy: Well, in reality, if I win it, that is going to be her prize (laughs), because it’s going to be all for her.
Peter: Where can the people that follow this sport find you?
Yoislandy: They can find me on Facebook. Here at the gym.
Peter: And Twitter?
Yoislandy: No. I don’t have Twitter. But on Facebook they can contact me, ask questions without any problem, because I will answer.
Peter: Who would you like for helping you get to this point in your career?
Yoislandy: When I got to this country, I was a little disorientated. It’s difficult getting your bearings when you don’t have support in all ways. First, my manager Alfred Munoz who he introduced me to this sport, and before that he brought me to this gym, Young Tigers Foundation, where my instructors have supported me, they have kept a good eye on me. The increase in my capabilities has been impressive in addition to the physical condition they’ve given me. And primarily my wife, who has sacrificed and always given me a lot of support at all times. My friends who have supported and always been with me. The fans, who more than anything else, I owe them a lot. They are always supporting me now that they know me. I never plan to defraud them, any of them.
Peter: What would you like to tell Patrick Cenoble, who will be trying to take those $20,000 out of your hand?
Yoislandy: To Patrick I would say he is a good fighter, and respect him as a fighter. I know he is training hard, but this is a business, and you have to fight for it like I’m doing.
Peter: So it’s not personal, it’s business.
Yoislandy: Nothing personal. Simply, I’m going to win. And let the smartest and most prepared win.
Peter: Well, this fight is going to be electric. And we’re going to be there to cover it all. Yoislandy, thanks for the time.
