DOGMMA – Australian MMA At Its Finest

As many people would know, there is nothing like being able to cheer on a fellow countryman at an elite level in professional sports. Sometimes I think that Americans take this for granted with MMA since the elite level is pretty much chocked full of Americans, most can relate to fighters who are from the same hometown or state but for all of us overseas fans there aren’t as many fighters at that same elite level who can represent our countries.
MMA in Australia hasn’t really had the same mainstream coverage as it does in other countries, sure it’s heading into the right direction but there is still a long way to go until our newspapers or even late night sports programs will feaure Mixed Martial Arts on a regular basis. If I had it my way, Sydney’s “The Daily Telegraph” would have a write-up in it at least bi-weekly, hell, I’d even write it myself!
In order to get more support for Mixed Martial Arts in this beautiful country of mine I think that more people need to support MMA at a “grassroots” level. There are plenty of up and coming MMA promotions in the country, but for me one stands out, probably because it’s based out of quite possibly the nicest part of the country, the Gold Coast.
After a successful debut event on the 25th of May this year, the Gold Coast based MMA promotion, Days of Glory MMA (DOGMMA) have announced that they will be putting on two events at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition centre in 2012.
Although only one event young, DOGMMA have really cemented their position as one of the premium MMA organizations in Australia. Glory 1 saw some great fights and even a seven second submission victory for Canberra native Stephen Reeks. Since their May debut DOGMMA has made footage from the show available to view on YouTube for the whole MMA community to enjoy. Links to the video clips can be found on their twitter timeline (@daysofglorymma)
Dates for the 2012 shows are the 3rd of March and the 2nd of June.
An announcement will be made on the DOGMMA website (www.dogmma.com) when tickets are available for sale and if you are in the Queensland area you should defiantly stop by for what is sure to be an awesome night of fights!
