Exclusive: Kimbo and his manager Icey Mike Imber Respond to the Naming of his Boxing Opponent

Kimbo Slice’s ascent from Youtube street fighting sensation to MMA headliner was meteoric. Fighting, which started as a way to survive and provide on the streets of Miami had transformed Kimbo into an internet-wide phenomenon. Capitalizing on his emerging fame and natural aura, MMA promotion Elite XC turned Kimbo into a main event attraction only a few fights into his nascent MMA career. Without having the same years of training as his opponents, Kimbo was still able to compete on a high level in Elite XC, as well as UFC, but succumbed in a sport to which he was a newcomer.

Since his release from UFC, Kimbo has been training to participate in something that is more closely associated to his roots… boxing. Beginning in the fall of 2010, Kimbo began to train for his boxing debut which will occur happen August 13th at the Buffalo Run Casino in Miami, Ohio against James Wade.

In past interviews Kimbo has stated his goals are that he will crush anybody that he gets into the ring with, going on to say:

I’ve got three minutes to smash them. I’m going to go ahead and I’m going to smash them. I’ve got three minutes to smash, and I’m coming in to do damage.

CageJunkies.com recently caught up with Kimbo’s manager “Icey” Mike Imber who told us:

This is the first step in a long journey for Kimbo… he’s been training hard and it will show in the ring.

Kimbo added:

It doesn’t matter who they have me fighting. I have one objective and that’s to knock this guy out.

Kimbo will have his chance next month. CageJunkies.com will cover the event, so stay tuned!
